Ramírez Ortiz was transporting three officials from the National Registry of Civil Status, who were taking a tour of the towns of Yavarate, Papunahua and Bocoa, where they worked on registering citizens for the next election days.
Ramírez Ortiz worked for the commercial flight company ‘Nativa Air’ and belonged to a family of renowned merchants and entrepreneurs from the city of Manizales where they managed different establishments dedicated to the sale of gastronomic products.

“His father is Carlos Alberto Ramírez Jiménez who has been owners of the establishment of “La Viña”, a cafeteria located on Carrera 22 in the center of Manizales. One of his uncles is Fernando Ramírez, who is the owner of “Palitos”, a traditional wafer and ice cream business located in the Cyprus sector.
His grandfather was Don Fidelino Ramírez, who was part of a boyacense legion that settled here in Manizales. and he was the founder of a very famous establishment, very famous in Manizales”, explained the chronicler Ríos Martínez.
Along with Ramírez Ortiz, his three passengers died, officials of the departmental delegation of the National Registry who were identified as Gabriel Gómez Sánchez, José Misael Silva Bernal and Nadia Valentina Valencia Yepes.
