“The volcano is unstable. The magma that was pushing and generating the earthquakes has already broken, fractured the rocks, and reached below the crater”, Luis Fernando Velasco, director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management on Nevado del Ruiz.

Given this event, Luis Fernando Velasco, director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, indicated that “the volcano is unstable. The magma that was pushing and generating the earthquakes has already broken, fractured the rocks, and reached below the crater.
For this «ehe crater has risen in temperature, which is not a sign that gives us peace of mind, That is why we are on orange alert, which is neither more nor less, technically, that the volcano could erupt in days or weeks,” he said.
He revealed that the event was recorded around 3:36 in the morning on Thursday and that, in addition, “volcanoes, when they are active, make micro-eruptions or very small eruptions.”
An activity that is not strange, “what happens normally, but what is clear is that there is a lot of energy, a lot of strength under the dome. The volcano has a dome, a kind of cover that was made in the last decade and, when the energy of the volcano presses, it generates earthquakes there in the dome and at some point it generates these small eruptions”.
10 years making minor eruptions
In the same way, from the Colombian Geological Service they published several images where they also gave an explanation of what is happening.
- “Ash emissions are common from the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, which has been making minor eruptions for about 10 years. Sometimes they emit light, due to the high temperature with which the particulate matter and gases leave the volcano.”
????the time that is on the image corresponds to the UTC time zone so that, anywhere in the world, they can know what time the image was recorded, therefore, to know what time this event occurred in Colombia we must subtract 5 hours, since our time zone is UTC-5
