Slaughter of chicken and swine in Brazil sets record, says IBGE

The country registered records in the slaughter of chickens and pigs in the third quarter of this year, according to information released today (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to the IBGE, 13.72 million pigs and 1.54 billion chickens were slaughtered in the country in the period, the highest levels since the beginning of the survey, in 1997.Slaughter of chicken and swine in Brazil sets record, says IBGE

The slaughter of pigs was 4.5% higher than that recorded in the previous quarter and 7.8% more compared to the third quarter of 2020. The number of slaughtered chickens was 0.7% higher than in the second quarter of this year and 1.2% higher than the third quarter of last year.

The slaughter of cattle, on the other hand, had the lowest level for a third quarter since 2004, with 6.94 million head. This represented losses of 2% compared to the second quarter of this year and 10.7% compared to the third quarter of 2020.

In the third quarter of 2021, the production of chicken eggs reached 1 billion dozens, down 1.8% compared to the third quarter of 2020 and up 1.5% compared to the second quarter of this year.

The acquisition of raw milk by the processing units was 6.19 billion liters, down 4.9% compared to the third quarter of 2020 and an increase of 6.1% compared to the second quarter of this year.

The acquisition of leather by tanneries investigated by the IBGE had drops of 10.4% compared to that acquired in the 3rd quarter of 2020 and 2.2% compared to the second quarter of this year.
