Brazilian skateboarding was on the podium three times on the first day of the Summer X Games, the second stage of one of the biggest extreme sports events in the world, which takes place in Los Angeles, California (United States). This Wednesday (20), Gui Khury, from Paraná, only 13 years old, won two silver medals, both in the vertical (dispute on a “U” shaped track), one of them in the specific test of best maneuver (Best Trick Vert), in which Rony Gomes from São Paulo won bronze.

In the vertical, Gui shared the podium with the Americans Jimmy Wilkins (gold) and Mitchie Brusco (bronze). In the dispute for the best maneuver, he and Rony (eighth in the previous race) were behind Elliot Sloan, also from the USA. Also this Thursday, the Brazilian duo will participate in the Mega Rampa, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), together with Ítalo Penarrubia, also from São Paulo.
It is the second time that Gui shines at the X Games in 2022. In April, the Brazilian won two medals (silver and bronze) at the stage in Chiba (Japan). At the time, aged 13 years and four months, the Paraná native became the youngest person in history to reach the podium in the race. In 2021, still 12 years old, he was the youngest to win gold in the event, in the dispute for best maneuver. Rony, in turn, had accumulated two silvers and a bronze in previous participations before this fourth.
Brazil’s participation in Los Angeles continues on Saturday (23), starting at 6 pm, with Carlos Ribeiro from Rio Grande do Sul, Kelvin Hoefler from São Paulo – silver at the Tokyo Olympics (Japan) – and Felipe Nunes from Paraná in the men’s street (style practiced in street obstacles). Carlos and Kelvin will only participate in the “regular” race, while Felipe will only be in the best maneuver competition, which starts at 7:30 pm.
On Sunday (24), at 4 pm, Letícia Bufoni, Pâmela Rosa and Rayssa Leal (Silver in Tokyo) compete in the street feminine. Finally, at 6 pm, Luiz Francisco concludes the Brazilian participation in the men’s park (style where the track is similar in shape to a swimming pool, with walls and street elements).
