Six years since the murder of Fernando Albán: PJ asks for justice and condemns torture

PJ stressed that he will not rest until he achieves justice for the death of Fernando Albán and for that of all Venezuelans “who have died, been detained and tortured unjustly in the hands of the Maduro regime.”


The match Justice First (PJ) remembered Councilor Fernando Albán, six years after his murder while he was detained and in State custody on October 8, 2018.

“Today marks six years since the murder of our leader and councilor of Caracas Fernando Albán, who was cruelly tortured by the regime of Nicolás Maduro during his detention and thus left denouncing before international organizations such as the United Nations (UN),” he indicated. PJ on his account on the social network X this Tuesday, October 8.

The opposition party maintained that Councilman Albán was a social fighter, “devoted to work within the most needy communities and with a fervent democratic spirit that only wanted what the vast majority longs for in Venezuela: the freedom of the country.”

Likewise, PJ stressed that he will not rest until he achieves justice for Albán’s death and for all Venezuelans “who have died, been detained and tortured unjustly in the hands of the Maduro regime. Fernando we will always remember you and you will be with us!

Fernando Albán died while being detained in a facility of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin). He remained in the hands of this government body for less than three days, however, family members and lawyers denounced that he was a victim of illegal confinement, violations of due process, and absence of guarantees and rights, such as that of life.

On October 8, 2018, the councilor was going to be presented in court. But, that day in the afternoon, the attorney general appointed by the defunct National Constituent Assembly, Tarek William Saab, reported in contact with VTV that the detainee “committed suicide.”

In December 2021, a Sebin detective and inspector were convicted of manslaughter and other minor charges, to which they pleaded guilty, in relation to Albán’s death, and were sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison.

However, in February 2022, the Tenth Chamber of the Caracas Criminal Court of Appeals reduced the sentence to 2 years and 8 months and the officials were released.
