Children under 5 years old and the elderly between 60 and 80 years old are the most prone to this type of illness. According to the head of the medical department, Jenny Huamán Álvarez, the common factor among those affected is the cold to which they are exposed due to the distance from their homes.

“The cases mostly come from the San Pablo, San Bernardo and San Cristóbal neighborhoods, these are very remote neighborhoods and it is quite cold.”said the specialist, who added that children and the elderly in these areas often have nothing to keep them warm and are areas where the poverty rate is highest.
