The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for strong winds for sectors of the provinces of La Pampa, Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro, San Juan and San Luis, while another storm warning is in effect for some towns in Jujuy and Salta. .
In the Central zone of the country, most of La Pampa and San Luis were under alert this Wednesday morning due to winds from the southern sector with speeds between 35 and 50 kilometers per hour, and gusts that can exceed 75 kilometers per hour.
The alert also extended to the province of Mendoza, with the exception of the Andean zone, and to a sector in the south of San Juan that included the provincial capital and the cities of 9 de Julio, Albardón, Chimbas, Rawson, Santa Lucía, the lower area of Pocito, Rivadavia and Sarmiento, indicated the national organization.
For the northeast of Neuquén, in the capital and the towns of Confluencia, Añelo, Pehuenches and Picún Leufú, another alert was in force for winds also from the southern sector, but with speeds between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour with gusts that can exceed 85 kilometers per hour. hour.
Avoid outdoor activities
The same warning was issued for an area northwest of Río Negro, in General Roca and east of El Cuy, according to the meteorological service.
For the population of these localities, the SMN recommended avoiding outdoor activities, securing items that can be blown up, and keeping informed by authorities.
On the other hand, the national body issued another yellow alert for storms of varying intensity, some locally strong, for the center and west of Jujuy and some sectors of Salta such as the valleys of Cachi, Cafayate, Chicoana, La Caldera, La Poma and the highlands of Iruya.
Storms may be accompanied by gusts, occasional hail, significant electrical activity, and abundant rainfall in short periods.
Accumulated precipitation values between 20 and 50 millimeters are expected, and may be exceeded locally, the agency indicated.
Among the recommendations, the SMN asked not to take out the garbage; remove objects that prevent water from draining; avoid outdoor activities; do not take shelter near trees and electricity poles that may fall; and not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.
