LIMA, Peru – A fireworks accident during the start of the Guayo parties, Sancti Spíritus province, left a preliminary balance of half a dozen people injured in the fireworks area of the La Loma neighborhood.
A report from the state newspaper Escambray reports an explosion that occurred around five in the morning this Saturday, when six people were injured, two of them reported in critical condition, two in serious condition and one with a less serious prognosis.
Official sources indicated that the accident occurred in some bags of so-called mortars, in a place intended for the explosion of the fireworks, near the town’s House of Culture.
After the explosion, those affected were taken to the Guayos polyclinic and from there transferred to the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial General Hospital, where they are examined by specialists in the Caumatology Room.
The patients were received at approximately six in the morning and are cared for by a multidisciplinary team for the individualized evaluation of each case, explained Dr. Tatiana Hernández González, second-degree specialist in Plastic Surgery and Caumatology.
Hospital authorities also detailed that all of the injured are male, between 30 and 40 years old, with the exception of one who is 50 years old.
“The competent bodies of the Ministry of the Interior are investigating the causes of the unfortunate accident,” the report states.
Tragedies due to explosion in central Cuba
Another fire caused by the explosion of a liquefied gas cylinder at the Brisas del Mar Hotel in Caibarién left three people injured at the beginning of last month, according to the information published by the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The facility, which belongs to the Gastronomy and Services Trade Company, is located a few meters from the beach area of this municipality.
The three affected by the incident are workers at the facility: one of them held the position of administrator and the other two worked as cooks. According to what Dr. Julio Cesar Arosteguí La Rosa, general director of health in Caibarién, told ACN, the injured were transferred to the “María del Carmen Sozaya” Hospital to receive first aid.
Two of the victims have burns and the third has a shoulder dislocation. “His transfer to the ‘Arnaldo Milián Castro’ Hospital in Santa Clara was coordinated,” the source said.
