Once evacuated, the six Haitians were transferred to the mainland, where they were expected by a team made up of personnel of the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Interior (Minint), the Cuban Red Cross and local government officials. Subsequently, they were taken to the Pedro Ortiz Cabrera camp, in the Uvero Popular Council, where they received medical attention, food and psychological support.

As explained In social networks Aris Arias Battle, official of the Cuban Red Cross, The rescued could finally communicate with their relatives via WhatsApp.

Some Internet users criticize what they consider a propaganda use of rescue in the midst of a deep economic crisis on the island.

So far, it has not been informed if the immigration authorities foresee the repatriation of fishermen or if they will remain in Cuban territory under temporary protection. In previous years, similar cases have resulted in voluntary or forced returns to Haiti, depending on diplomatic and logistics conditions.

This type of shipwreck in Cuban waters has become recurring in recent years, in the midst of the aggravation of the crisis in Haiti and the increase in dangerous crossings undertaken not only by fishermen, but also by migrants in search of livelihood or refuge that they arrive in Cuba.
