According to preliminary reports, local media reported that the clash left two civilians dead and one soldier wounded.
The exchange of gunfire continued across several neighborhoods and culminated in the community of Bellavista, part of the Culiacancito municipality.
The shooting reportedly began in the Portalegre, Cedros and La Conquista neighborhoods, causing alarm among residents.
Authorities launched a pursuit operation that ended in Bellavista, where the alleged criminals, who were travelling in a grey Toyota Hilux pickup truck, were shot down after crashing into some trees.
How many deaths are there in Culiacán?
Mexican authorities on Friday, September 13, recorded seven homicides in the state in five days, the latest episode of violence affecting an area where increasingly frequent shootings are fueling fears of the possible start of a war between cartels.
The deaths bring the number of murders this week to 19, after 12 were recorded between Monday and Thursday.
The Sinaloa prosecutor’s office said in a statement late Friday that the latest victims were found in four different locations.
Two people were killed in the capital, Culiacán, and five in the municipality of Concordia, both described in the statement as places “where violent events between criminal groups have occurred.”
