At 12:28 pm this Sunday (26), the sound of a siren echoed by Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo. The warning was to remember the 272 people who died in the rupture of the Mining Dam Vale, in Brumadinho, occurred six years ago.
The choice of siren’s touch is to mark the time when the tragedy began and remember that, that same day, six years ago, Sirene did not touch. Tribute to the victims of the tragedy is also a way of denouncing impunity and reaffirming the commitment to the prevention of new episodes.
The act was promoted by the Camila Institute and Luiz Taliberti, an entity that was raised in honor of the two sons of Helena Taliberti, who died as a result of the breaking of the dam. Both were staying at Pousada Nova Estância, swallowed by the tailings.
They were not the only victims of the family. At 30, Fernanda Damian, wife of Luiz Taliberti, was also interrupted. She was five months pregnant with Helena’s first grandson. Also present was the ex-husband of Helena, father of Camila and Luiz. He accompanied the trip with his wife.
“I am the mother of Camila and Luiz. I’m Fernanda’s mother -in -law, who was five months pregnant with my grandson Lorenzo. Everyone died in this tragedy. The biological father and their stepmother died. The whole family, ”said Helena Taliberti, president of the Association, who participated in the act today on Paulista Avenue. “It’s not a normal mourning because we know it’s a mourning that could have been avoided. They could be here with us. We know that this happened by negligence and greed. The pain is daily. She is in our daily lives because of their absence and impunity, ”he denounces.
The acting program began at 10am with the distribution of sunflower seeds, artistic intervention and a planting action and clay painting with children.
Do not forget
“This is an act to remember what happened and not let it fall into oblivion. Forgetfulness is a danger for new tragedies to happen. We are here remembering that moment, of the six years of breaking of that dam, ”said Marina Kilikian Rossi, project coordinator at the Camila Institute and Luiz Taliberti. “This is also an act to honor the memory of the victims and by request for justice. This is another factor that makes great tragedies occur again, ”he added.
Marina recalled that the tragedy not only affected the families of all these victims. There were also territorial, social, economic and environmental damages. “It was not just human loss. There was environmental loss, which affected the substance of many people, such as those who lived from Rio, agriculture, fishing. And there was also damage to the water, which was contaminated and they had to be supplied with water coming from outside because Everything was contaminated There, ”he said.
“We do this act every year here on Paulista Avenue, outside Minas Gerais, precisely to expand the awareness of society about what happened and what is happening. To do this act is to bring the memory. And when you build memory, you don’t let this tragedy be forgotten and struggle so that it does not repeat itself and, especially, so that their death was not in vain, ”concludes Helena.
During the event were also collected signatures for the manifesto enough of impunity: justice for Brumadinho, to press by speed of the proceedings about the breaking of the dam.
