The Minister of Transport and Public Works, José Luis Falero, referred last week in Parliament to the state of comfort of national routes.
According to the hierarch, there are 5,361 kilometers in very good condition, 1,360 kilometers in good condition, 1,120 kilometers in regular condition, and 901 kilometers in bad condition.
“If one measures, 77% of the road network is in the conditions that the rest should have, for which we are doomed, you will have heard it in recent days, to a new plan, an injection of public works to improve even plus these percentage indices that make up the state of the national road network”, Falero pointed out before the Budget Commission integrated with the Treasury of the Chamber of Deputies.
The minister added that although this percentage (77%) indicates what is “better”, another reading that is made is that 89% of the vehicles that use the road network travel on “good” and very good roads.
In another part of his presentation, Falero affirmed that the current administration found “a delay in public works” with respect to the growth that transport, cargo and the automobile fleet have had.
“This is a delay that was not addressed at the time by previous governments, as it should have been, and today we are having to make an extra effort,” said Falero. “We are solving this year with an investment of US$905 million, because we got extra money to be able to intervene more than expected,” he pointed out.
Later the minister referred to the state of some road works carried out in the past government. “I must say it: it bothers me a lot, as it will bother the next minister, if I make a route for him and I have to start repairing it before inaugurating it; and we have plenty of examples in this regard. We are talking about many routes, such as routes No. 30, No. 45, No. 43, No. 20; the one you want, ”he pointed out.
“You could mention them one by one and we could work all afternoon; In this way they would understand that what was invested was invested badly, because an adequate study was not carried out for the load, which is what we are doing now; we are reviewing all of that now,” she noted.
