Since February, mayors will have to publish their mobilization expenses, subsidies and exemptions

Starting next month (February), the mayors of the different municipalities of Panama will have to publish in the digital portal of the mayors’ offices the itemized detail of the use they give to their mobilization expenses, as well as the subsidies, exonerations and other budget information, as reported this Tuesday by the director of the National Authority for Transparency and Access to Information (Antai), Elsa Fernández.

This measure is part of the new obligations that will be added to the Transparency Monitoring of websites of entities and municipalities in accordance with the provisions of the Transparency Law.

Last week Antai published that there are currently 111 entities and 81 municipalities that are monitored.

In addition to this, everything that is awarded as a scholarship, charitable or educational contribution to local organizations, among others, must be reported.

According to Fernández, when registering the mobilization expenses, it will be necessary to specify: the start date of the mission, the end date of the mission and the justification.

The director of Antai highlighted that the circular details the publication process for budget execution, following the codes of the Manual of Budgetary Classifications of Public Expenditure.

Fernández pointed out that by means of a circular, all the mayors of the country were informed about this obligation.
