Since April, electronic pre-registration is required to travel to Mexico

The national government announced this Wednesday that From next April 1, an electronic pre-registration will be enabled for all Colombians traveling to Mexico. This, in order to mitigate the wave of non-admissions by which thousands of compatriots have been affected for a year and a half when they arrived in the Aztec country.

(The formality in local tourism grew 25.6% in 2021).

“We have agreed on a system of electronic pre-check where any Colombian tourist who buys a ticket to Mexico is going to be subject to this, in such a way that if there is any reason for the immigration authorities to not admit it, they are going to be notified here in Colombia, before getting on the plane and thus we avoid that what has happened during the last year and a half happens and that is that when they arrive in Mexico they are not admitted, they lose (…) all the effort that several families had made to spend a few days of tourism, “explained the vice president and chancellor Marta Lucía Ramírez at the end of a meeting with Mexican authorities.

The senior official took advantage of the meeting to call on people who make the fateful decision to travel irregularly: “Going illegally to another country is a wrong decision, we have recently seen that many Colombians (…) unfortunately become targets of migrant smuggling mafias. We recently learned about the case of the death of two young Colombians.”

(Anato: the country’s passenger movement will exceed 2019 levels).

For his part, the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Maximiliano Reyes, explained that this initiative seeks “that whoever boards a plane after that pre-check can have a happy stay in Mexico and, on the other hand, coordinate even more to combat the human trafficking networks.
