Since 2019 in the province of Coclé, 441 wells have been drilled to combat the drought

A total of 441 wells have been drilled in the province of Coclé, from 2019 to date as part of the Drought Plan promoted by the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) in support of the country’s producers.

Juan de Dios Domínguez, director of MIDA in Coclé explained that this total number of wells is distributed in 72 perforations in 2019, 123 in 2020, 142 in 2021 and 104 in 2022.

Domínguez highlighted that this December 23, the small farmer Moisés Castillo, from the corregimiento of La Pava, district of Olá, benefited from a well.

The wells have been drilled through the MIDA Extension Agencies in Río Hato, Antón, Penonomé, Toabré, La Pintada, El Copé, Olá, Natá and Aguadulce.

Regarding the production roads, he reported that a total of seven producers have benefited from the opening of a total of 975 meters in the village of Las Guabas in the community of Coclé, district of Penonomé.

To date, support has been provided to producers with 54.7 kilometers of rehabilitated roads so that they can transport their products to markets more easily and thus avoid having losses when marketing their production.

For this year 2022 in the Coclesana region, MIDA worked a total of 20.45 kilometers of roads benefiting 170 producers from areas such as Antón with 3.05 km, Penonomé with 6.4 km, La Pintada with 0.8 km and El Copé with 102 km.

The Drought Plan is one of the flagship programs of the president, Cortizo Cohen, which consists of preparing producers for the dry season with a water strategy of an irrigation plan so as not to be in captivity every year since the water has become a critical factor for food production and human consumption
