The data from the report MESIAS Evolution of Uruguay in the iGovernment Good Governance Index and its Dimensions 2002-2021, prepared by the MESIAS Institute – Spain Brand Intelligence in alliance with the European firm iTRUST Country Brand Intelligence, came out. In this document, it is highlighted that Uruguay once again ranked in the top 20 countries in the world with the best government.
It is highlighted that Uruguay has led “a progressive and sustainable escalation in Good Government over the last twenty years”, which has allowed it to advance 14 positions since 2005, the year in which the first government of the Broad Front arrived, led by the then President Tabaré Vázquez.
By categories in Good Governance, between 2002 and 2021, Uruguay advanced 28 positions in the global ranking in the Political Stability dimension, 11 positions in the Control of Corruption dimension, 11 positions in Voice and Accountability, 5 positions in State Law, 4 positions in Government Efficiency, and 4 positions in Regulatory Quality.
Uruguay is the only Latin American in the top 20: it is followed by Chile and Costa Rica in steps 27 and 30, respectively. Also in the Top 10 in Latin America are countries such as Puerto Rico (37 worldwide) and the Dominican Republic (49) that complete the Top 5. For their part, Argentina (61), Colombia (64), Brazil ( 66), Peru (67) and Ecuador (73) complete the top ten in the region.
