Sinaproc responds to emergencies after Sunday’s rains

The recent rains on Sunday caused flooding, fallen trees, cut off roads, isolated people and a structural collapse in the provinces of Veraguas, Panama Oeste, Herrera and Panama, according to the Emergency Operations Center of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).

In the province of Veraguas, in the district of Mariato, there are approximately 11 homes (35 people) that lost some of their belongings due to the flooding of the Quebro River. Sinaproc, in order to protect the inhabitants of that community, carried out evacuations to the Junta Comunal, as one of the highest points in that sector.

Food supplies for those affected in Mariato were arranged with local governments. River levels in the districts of Loma Quebro and El Cucuyo returned to normal.

In Panama Oeste, in the district of San Carlos, damage to fords was reported in the community of Mata Ahogado, which keeps this land route isolated.

In the El Bambú neighborhood, Cerro Tigre de Arraiján, the collapse of a wall was recorded without causing damage to third parties.

In East Panama, in the sector of Unión de Azuero, Chepo, the roof of a house collapsed, causing loss of belongings and no injuries.

In Brisas de Pacora, in the afternoon, six people and a baby were assisted by Sinaproc and the National Police after being isolated by the flooding of the Pacora River.

In the province of Herrera, in the El Vigía urbanization, Sinaproc units removed a tree that fell on a wall with no reports of anyone affected.

In the district of Río Abajo, Marcasa urbanization, a structural fire was recorded last Saturday, where four families, made up of 12 people, including two minors, lost all their belongings.

MONITORING
Given the rainy conditions typical of the season, which could intensify in the coming hours, the population is urged to follow the recommendations. Avoid crossing rivers, ravines, water currents and flooded roads.
