La Zumbona in the district of Boquete.
In this area there has been a huge landslide, but there is also a reservoir that puts dozens of families at risk; in addition to affecting the entry of visitors to this tourism sector in the province of Chiriquí.
Palacios said that engineering personnel and the risk management department carried out inspections in the area where they detected an avalanche of at least 10 meters, fallen trees in the Zumbona basin, for which they began work to clear the ravine.
He stressed that the intervention of the Ministries of Environment and Public Works is also necessary since some trees must be cut down and prior authorization is required to reduce the damage to the environment as much as possible.
“We have to protect the people who are at the bottom of this reservoir…The houses in this sector are the most affected,” he said, assuring that if the people in the area did not intervene, they would be in danger in the face of a natural disaster.
