The weakening of the Sinaloa Cartel
Facing a “war” wears any criminal band and the Sinaloa cartel is no exception.
Jesús Pérez Caballero, Professor of the Northern Border College (Colef) And Doctor of International Security, explains that 10 months after the confrontation between the features of “Los Chapitos” and “Los Mayitos”, it is possible to see affectation within the cartel.
“There is wear by criminal organizations, we see indications of this regarding the operability and type of attacks they perform. However, the situation remains complicated because the conflict has civil war features and this idea of betrayal is mixed with the previous knowledge of the circumstances of each one: security houses, wineries, drugs sale, rivals,” he explains.
Before the government of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador concluded, the first measures were taken to contain violence, including the sending of hundreds of military.
In the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum additional measures such as safety reinforcement with federal forces, the deployment of specialized cells, the visit of the Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, Sinaloa, to Sinaloa and the assistance of members of the Security Cabinet were adopted.

On his recent visit to Sinaloa, on July 21, Harfuch said they have managed to reduce the Sinaloa cartel.
“At the beginning of the conflict (in September) we saw convoys of several trucks here in Culiacán and today we have not had records of this; they are less frequent, if not there were months with zero blockages on roads as at the beginning of the conflict, that does not mean that the situation is resolved, what we definitely say is that they are not, they do not have the same fire capacity as at the beginning of these criminal groups,” he said.
David Saucedoa pubic security specialist, explains that the weakening that both factions have faced has led them to SUBSCRIBE “NARCOALIANZAS” with groups that were even rivals.
“Hums that the Americans gave to ‘The Chapitos’ forced them to negotiate an alliance with the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel. It seemed that ‘El Mayo’ and their group were winning the war, but the faction of ‘Los Chapitos’ was quickly replied, establishing a link with the nemesio oceguera, ‘El Mencho’. Then, this weakness quickly solves with a narcoaliance and causes us to Sturined, ”explains the specialist.
But the group of “Los Mayitos” has also sought support in other organizations such as the one headed by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, Leader of the criminal group “Los Beltrán Leyva”.
Macrocártels are generated based on this internal war of the Sinaloa cartel, which guarantees that there will be an increase in the violence of homicides in the area. ”
David Saucedo, security expert.
The situation is complex for the entire entity, because the war between the cartels has not left any sector without repercussions.
Cristina IbarraPresident of the Federation of Economists Colleges of the Mexican Republic, he shares that the internal dispute of the Sinaloa Cartel first generated that people did not leave their homes for the fear of meeting armed people and/or burning cars.
This led to that businesses will close early because, in a kind of self -imposed touch, people did not come out.
That fear has brought other losses: sources of employment and closure of companies.
“We accumulate in June of this year a loss of formal employment of 15,700 jobs,” he warns.
Education has also suffered side effects. A balance of the Mexican organization first estimates that, due to the climate of insecurity in Sinaloa, at least 30 days the classes were suspended, which is equivalent to 15% of the school year that just concluded.
