On the Mexican side, federal authorities confirmed this Tuesday the collaboration with Guatemala. In the morning conference, the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla, reported that both countries agreed to carry out “coincident actions” to reinforce surveillance on the border.
He pointed out that each army will act in its own territory: “A plan will be applied for coincident actions on the border with Army forces in Mexico, in our territory, and also with Guatemalan personnel. These types of operations will be carried out that begin today and would tentatively end on December 11, or, if necessary, they will be extended for as long as required,” he indicated.
In addition, he noted that Mexican Army aircraft will carry out reconnaissance flights along the border.
According to Trevilla, two criminal organizations operate in the area where the confrontation took place: “One belongs to the Sinaloa Cartel and another to the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel. These groups act on this border line and move both from Guatemala to Mexico and from Mexico to Guatemala,” he said.
