The National Emergency System (Sinae) shared a series of recommendations for the safe return to homes after a flood. The content was shared in 2020, but it is spread again after more than 300 people were evacuated from their homes due to the volume of water.
It is important to confirm that the people who collaborate in the cleaning and disinfection of the areas have the tetanus shot. Each one should wear rubber gloves and boots, avoiding open shoes.
The ideal is to enter the house in daylight, to take advantage of natural light.
Prior to cleaning, it is necessary to visualize the objects that may be blocking the passage and rule out electrical risk before moving them: check that the general light switch is off and the outlets are released.
The space should be ventilated by opening doors and windows. So, it is recommended to scrape the dry mud from the walls with a spatula and dispose of the mud outside with a shovel and bucket.
For the disinfection of floors and walls, Sinae recommended a solution of 60 milliliters of hypochlorite for each liter of water.
All utensils and food containers should be washed with soap and water and submerged for half an hour in 5 milliliters of hypochlorite for each liter of water. Rinse them once the time is up.
It is recommended do not eat food that has been in contact with flood water.
