English writer and motivator, known for his concept of “The Golden Circle”, Simon Sinek will be the figure chosen for a new edition of the SURA Summit, which will take place on Tuesday, November 29 at the Montevideo hotel (José Benito Lamas 2901) from 8:30 a.m.

Sinek is known for being an optimist of the existence of a hopeful future and of the capacity of human beings to build it. An ethnographer by profession and passionate about people and organizations that have a great and lasting impact in the world, the expert dedicates his professional life to envisioning a future where the vast majority of people live inspired, confident, secure, and feel fulfilled. with the work they do.

The success of his lectures has been evident; In 2009, Sinek gave a TED talk about the mechanical inspiration of leaders. “How Great Leaders Inspire Action” became the third most followed TED Talk: seven years later, it has been viewed by more than 25 million people. In turn, her interview on millennials in the workplace turned out to be a hit on the internet in 2016, for which she garnered more than 80 million views in one week.

In October of that year, he published his first book, “Empieza con el porqué”, in which he develops his idea of ​​the “golden circle”: a biological pattern that, according to him, explains why certain thinkers, organizations and, above all, inspire us. , leaders, and why others don’t. In turn, he is the author of other books, including the best sellers “Leaders eat last” and “Together is better”, which were New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

For Sinek, what is important is not so much what you do as why you do it. The essential thing is to know why you do what you do, why you exist. Learning to ask the right questions will allow you to have an inspiring company, innovative projects and committed people to develop them. Sinek explains how to create the right framework in an organization to achieve these purposes.

The Englishman has written articles for different journalistic and business publications, such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Houston Chronicle, BusinessWeek among others, as well as regular appearances on the Your Business program on MSNBC.

At the SURA Summit event –with an exhibition that will be broadcast from Los Angeles–, Sinek will reflect on the challenges that Latin America faces in the current context and on how society can be based on awareness at the time of decision-making , you can be part of the change and build new realities.

The mission of Inversiones SURA, with its SURA Summit, has been to accompany its clients by promoting instances that inspire, invite reflection and generate awareness of the impact that decisions have on the future. The event brings together experts and contemporary references every year to address current issues and the latest news from the world and the region in financial, economic and social terms.

“Each SURA Summit generates a space for reflection, a moment to pause in the maelstrom of routine and analyze the impact that decisions have on the future that we want to create,” said Gerardo Ameigenda, vice president of SURA Asset Management Uruguay.

Aimed at customers and other interest groups, this year the meeting will be held in person. The conference will also be broadcast in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile and El Salvador through a closed platform with capacity for 100,000 users connected simultaneously.

Personalities such as Steve Forbes, Dan Ariely, Peter Diamandis, Tal Ben-Shahar, Steven Pinker, Chris Gardner and Yuval Noah Harari have been part of these initiatives.

The purpose in Uruguay

Inversiones SURA, within the framework of the SURA Summit 2022, promoted a study to observe and discover what are the things that today inspire and motivate each Latin American to give their best. In this sense, they carried out the “Barometer on the reason for being in Latin America”, in a bid to direct attention to fundamental questions about the purposes, to broaden the perspectives around the political, social and economic challenges that the region faces. .

For this, more than 3,000 surveys were carried out in six Latin American countries: Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and El Salvador.

The study detected that there is a homogeneous vision and approach to the purpose among people with resources in the different countries of Latin America. For Uruguay, 82% declare that they are interested in its reason for being in the world, where 51% admit that they are completely oriented towards it; it was the lowest percentage in the region. The purpose is defined especially from an individual perspective, where the desire for self-improvement predominates for 52%, understood mainly as development or improvement (25%), both personal – to be a better person or version of oneself – and professional.

It also emerges, although with less force than development, the contribution and contribution towards a common good that goes beyond this more individualistic dimension (society / community) for 15%. From the point of view of one’s own well-being, the economic level is the most relevant with 17% of mentions, followed by the emotional level with 16% of mentions. This desire to excel is also achieved when people identify what society recognizes and pays them for today, where 58% value their ability to constantly learn new things.

The family is by far the most relevant dimension of life, being selected by 49% of Uruguayans; for 57%, it is the work that people are most proud of and is the element that contributes the most to connecting with the purpose (68%), being even a constituent of the purpose for a significant number of them (37%): granting well-being and family support.

When asked to identify the challenges and motivations facing the world, from the point of view in Uruguay, it is in the respect between people for 34%, aligned with the predisposition to invest personal time, where efforts are concentrated precisely on working for this global challenge for 41% of Uruguayans.
