Juan Carlos Mogollón, deputy of the National Assembly (AN), reported that the recently approved Liberator Simón Bolívar Law against the Imperialist Blockade contemplates a maximum sentence of 30 years without benefits for the crime of Treason against the Homeland.
Likewise, the Venezuelan justice system will be able to judge those who commit serious crimes even in their absence; in addition, they may face the penalty of up to 60 years of political disqualification.
“The people’s clamor for the approval of the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law is to prevent impunity,” the parliamentarian highlighted this Thursday during his participation in the podcast “Maduro Live Suddenly.”
In this regard, the first combatant of the Republic, Cilia Flores, considered it appropriate that the new legal instrument allows judging in absentia to prevent the guilty from fleeing the country and continuing to attack the country from outside.
“The right to defense, as our Constitution and our legislation says, is a right and the right is exercised or not exercised, that depends on the person,” he clarified.
The AN deputy also stressed that the accused are not obliged to exercise the aforementioned right to defense, “but you cannot paralyze the justice system either, you cannot paralyze a State, a country, the aggrieved, those who are affected by a criminal action. So, it is very appropriate that one can judge in freedom. If you want to come and defend yourself, all due process is open for you to defend yourself,” he pointed out.
The legislator and head of the Homeland Bloc in the national parliament, Tania Díaz, mentioned that “it is our responsibility to claim the name of the Liberator, but it is important to say that this Law was also approved by the opposition, who also voted with us.” .
Díaz highlighted that this rule was also approved by the opposition, “who also voted with us,” the legislator stressed.
Liberator Simón Bolívar Law for peace
For his part, the first national leader, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted that the Libertador Simón Bolívar Law will defend justice and peace in the country, and also highlighted that the law has an institutional profile that will allow order and limits to be placed on the attitudes of a small sector of “selling homelands” who seek to destabilize the nation and declare themselves innocent.
“They become lackeys of the American empire to harm Venezuela, to bring in mercenaries and terrorist groups, to organize commanders and kill people, to seek a coup d’état and an invasion,” he argued.
Maduro criticized the fact that the country’s extremist opposition supported the so-called “Bolívar Law” of the United States Congress, which he described as a “historic offense” against the memory of the Liberator.
“It is a law of war against Venezuela, they have tried to name it after our Liberator. This has generated great indignation in the world. I have called it the “Garbage Law” that will go down in history as one of the attacks,” he stressed.
