Silvio Rodríguez at the University of Havana: “This we needed us”

Silvio Rodríguez began his tour of Latin America in Havana, as announced and, as expected, the staircase of the University of Havana was completely full to listen and accompany the troubadour.

Cubans and foreigners of all ages filled the staircase to vibrate, cry and enjoy an artist who on Friday night again proved that his art is universal, without geographical, political or generational borders.

At the end of the concert, we look for the opinions of some attendees. The youngest recognized the unique opportunity to meet an iconic artist, whom they had not had so close.

The motivations to go to the concert were very dissimilar, but almost all the interviewees agreed that Silvio’s songs and their interaction with the public achieved a unit effect among those present.

“This needed us,” said one of the attendees. It was a kind of small -scale demonstration that there are deep essences, experienced through these songs, which still bind us to Cubans, even in the midst of the adversity and polarization we live.

Each of the attendees returned home with their own experience, for many unique and unrepeatable in life; But also with many shared emotions. Maybe they are all summarized that the night will end with “come the hope” and with the clamor of “Thank you, Silvio.”
