The mayor of Teresina, Silvio Mendes, was sworn in this Wednesday (1st). At 75 years old, he assumes the role for the third time – he was elected mayor of the capital of Piauí for the first time in 2004 and re-elected in 2008.
A doctor specializing in orthopedics, Mendes headed the Municipal Health Department in the 1990s and headed the organization for 12 years. He was also president of the Piauí Medicine Association.
“This is a major mission for all of us who accept the challenge of public management. It’s not easy. The challenges are great. But rest assured: courage is greater. We ask God, always him, to give us wisdom”, he said in his speech.
