Silvino Baez, father of Fernando Baez Sosa, gave a series of statements to the media upon withdrawing from Dolores Oral Criminal Court (TOC) No. 1, where the eight murderers of her son received prison sentences of different degrees, separated into primary and secondary participants . At first, he said he was “quite relieved.”
However, immediately afterwards, the father of the victim expressed the following regarding the three involved in the premeditated murder of Fernando Baez Sosa who received lesser sentences: “I think that with the three defendants they fell short with the sentence. I was surprised, I expected 25 (years) or perpetual. The doctors (Fernando Burlando and Fabián Améndola) are going to appeal and they are going to go to Cassation”.
Three of the eight rugbiers, Ayrton Viollaz, Blas Cinalli and Lucas Pertossi, received 15 years in prison for being considered “secondary participants” to cause the death of Fernando Baez Sosa on January 18, 2020. Meanwhile, the remaining five of the group got life in prison (35 years) as primary participants.
In this way, judges María Claudia Castro, Christian Rabaia and Emiliano Lázzari benefited three of the defendants with lesser sentences. However, the lawyers of Silvino Báez and Graciela Sosa (parents of the victim) will appeal the decision of the magistrates, since “it does not make sense that they have assigned a secondary participationit is contradictory, irrational and incoherent to think that one participated more or less in a plan (where) everyone participated”.
Convictions and police operation
During today’s session, the eight rugby players involved in the murder of Fernando received the opinion of their sentences from the TOC No. 1 of Dolores. There, five of them received the maximum sentence, something that relieves the parents of the victim.
Since yesterday, the Buenos Aires security authorities expected more than 400 people to witness the verdict of the sentences. Therefore, they launched a police operation with more than 150 troops from 06:00 a.m. until the crowd is deconcentrated, which was attended by organizations of relatives of victims of serious crimes to support Fernando’s family.
