Silvina Aida Batakis53 years old and appointed this Sunday Minister of Economy to replace Martín Guzmánis an economist, university professor and to date Secretary of Provinces in the Ministry of the Interior.
Batakis served as Minister of Economy of the province of Buenos Aires between 2011 and 2015, during the second term of Daniel Sciolialthough previously he held various positions in the Buenos Aires public administration.
Born in the city of Río Grande, province of Tierra del Fuego, she graduated with a degree in Economics (1993) and a master’s degree in Public Finance from the National University of La Plata, in addition to having completed a master’s degree in Environmental Economics at the University of York.
Since 1992, she has held various positions in the Buenos Aires public administration, including Undersecretary of Finance, Director of Free Trade Zones, Provincial Director of Environmental Economics and Alternative Energies in the Provincial Organ for Sustainable Development, Provincial Director of Economic Studies in the Ministry of Economy and assistant in the Planning Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure, among other positions.
In December 2011, after obtaining his reelection, the then governor of Buenos Aires, Daniel Scioli, appointed Batakis as his economy ministera position he held until the end of his term, in December 2015.
During the 2015 presidential campaign, Scioli – who was a candidate of the then Front for Victory– announced Batakis as his future Minister of Economy in a possible government, although he later lost that contest against Mauricio Macri in the second electoral round.
in 2019 was appointed Secretary of Provinces of the Ministry of the Interiora role from which he agreed, together with the 23 provinces, on the new fiscal consensus that President Alberto Fernández had promoted with the provinces
He received multiple distinctions and honors such as the Mobilité Program 2009 scholarship to participate in the renewable energy exhibition in Lyon, awarded by International Relations and Cooperation Rhône-Alpes; the Chevining 2001 scholarship, awarded by the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the scholarship for Higher Studies of the Federal Council of Investments; the scholarship for Postgraduate Studies of the Organization of American States for studies in Chile; and the Special Mention at the 30th Conference on Public Finance at the National University of Córdoba.
