Silver medal for Cuban Laina Pérez in Pan-American shooting

Cuban shooter Laina Pérez was crowned runner-up in the 25-meter (m) pistol test at the Pan-American Sports Shooting Championship in Lima, Peru, which closes its activities on the 13th.

Winner of the title in that event in the 10m air pistol mixed team modality, together with her partner Jorge Grau, Pérez accumulated 15 points in the final. She was only surpassed by the American Katelyn Morgan, who managed 22.

The Brazilian Ana Luisa Souza (9) completed the list of awards; Mexican Elba Esthela Vega (6) had to settle for fourth place.

The Cuban achieved 572 units to qualify for the decisive instance of the eight best, adding 291 points yesterday Wednesday in the rapid shooting phase, with identical rolls of 97 in each of the three stipulated series.

These results, together with what was achieved in the precision stage, in which she reached a score of 281 with 95, 93 and 93, placed her in the vanguard group among 42 gunwomen who participated in that competition.

Her teammates Sheyla González and Claudia Hernández also participated in this 25m pistol specialty today, accumulating 563 and 545 points, respectively, to rank 20th and 28th, in that order.

So far, Cuban athletes have won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in that qualifying tournament for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
