The immigration alert that several people requested against former President Evo Morales, due to the so-called statutory rape case, must be processed by prosecutors and defined by the judge hearing the case, who can also issue the arrest warrant, said this afternoon the Minister of Justice, César Siles.
“Rooting occurs once the judge acts based on an accusation, precautionary measures and the immigration alert, we have not received any notification, clarifying that the Ministry of Justice acts in this process through the Plurinational Victim Assistance Service,” declared the Minister of Justice.
This Thursday The former president must appear to testify at 08:00, in the city of Tarija for the rape case that the prosecutor’s office of that department established for an event that occurred in 2015. Evo Morales said that he will defend the accusations, although he described them as political and did not assure his presence in the city of Tarija.
“We hope they do their duty (to come forward); Any subpoena order clearly states in its text that In case of non-appearance, an arrest warrant will be issued. that corresponds; but we are sure (that) not only Mr. Morales but the other people will appear to tell their truth and clarify the facts for which they are being accused,” he said when asked about the consequences of not appearing to testify before the prosecutors commission.
Parallel to the process, Siles said that the Plurinational Council will speak against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling, which is the body that reviews these types of events and following the instructions of President Luis Arce, the members of the Council must issue a statement.
