Santiago.- The Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration in Santiago, the main symbol of this city and the Cibao region, shows advanced signs of abandonment by the Ministry of Culture.
The administration and management of the monument and its surroundings are in charge of the culture Ministry through a governor appointed by that governmental body.
The statues placed in the place to represent the main social and cultural expressions and the cibaeño activities deteriorate progressively.
One of the most outrageous cases is the deterioration of the bust found in the square of the newspaper La Información, a situation that degrades one of Santiago’s legacies to the country.

Another case that draws attention is that the statue in honor of the outstanding painter and folklorist from Santiago Yoryi Morel has been left with a hand.
Both in its square and statue in the Monument, and in the museum that bears the name of Morel, also abandoned, the Ministry of Culture in Santiago disrespects the memory of one of the country’s most outstanding painters and folklorists.
Both cases themselves denounce the lack of maintenance in the external zone of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration and the abandonment of the Ministry of Culture to the most emblematic area of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros.
In some places there are holes due to the theft of sewer and drain covers, which poses a danger to tourists and people who come to walk in the area.
From the early hours of the morning, dozens of people from Santiago gather in the monumental area to carry out their health walks, considering that the security and facilities of the park are better in this place than in others.
But in the afternoon and evening, the monument is used by the inhabitants of Ciudad Corazón as a leisure and recreation area.
During the day, dozens of tourists visit the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration and are interested in its history and important details such as the murals of José Vela Zanetti, who left the mark of his art and trade on this monument.
