The signing ceremony, held at the Palacio de la Luz, was attended by the full board of directors of both institutions, headed by the president of the National Administration of Electric Power Plants and Transmissions (UTE), Silvia Emaldi, and the president of the National Colonization Institute (INC), Julio Cardozo, along with the respective general managers, advisors and officials.
After completing the formal notarial stage, Emaldi and Cardozo took the floor to give enthusiastic speeches regarding the scope of the agreement and its positive effects for rural areas.
“This agreement is developed within the framework of theUruguay 100% Electric Programthat advances with the objective of ensuring that the entire country has access to electricity at the end of this Government period. The connections of the 230 families of settlers included in the scope of the agreement will be made through the joint investment of both organizations, for which the conventional electrical network will be extended or through the installation of solar panels and photovoltaic kits, “said the president. of UTE.
For his part, the president of INC described the signing of this agreement as historic and highlighted the importance of having access to electricity for a rural family. “Today is a moment of joy, enjoyment and commitment, so that they can carry out the operational tasks that allow more neighborhoods to have sustainable and quality projects,” he said. Indicating that electricity will also allow the addition of modern elements, such as computers in homes, and improve the quality of life of rural families, Cardozo said that “this agreement with UTE is essential.”
At the close of the activity, Emaldi, underlining the great commitment with which UTE works in relation to rural electrification, made reference to the incorporation of new three-phase lines that will improve the productivity of rural establishments, as well as the current plans that allow Incorporate around 1,000 families per year so that they have access to electricity.
“This not only transforms people’s quality of life, as confirmed by the experiences lived in each of the rural electrifications that UTE carries out, but also favors the settlement of rural families and the increase in the population in different places. from the interior of Uruguay,” he said.
Later, the president of UTE concluded her speech with a motivating message: “Count on us so that this can be possible and we are firm in the objective of fulfilling that by the end of 2024 Uruguay will be 100 percent electric.”
The signed agreement will cover 230 rural families and its investment amounts to nine million dollars that will be executed in the next three years. The works will be carried out with the technical expertise of UTE and will cover neighborhoods of all the regional offices of the INC in the country.
NEW CHALLENGES
In the speech given in the moments prior to the signing of the agreement, Cardozo affirmed that “for those of us who come from these rural areas, really the changes that technology has given us and the demands that the productive moments of the time give us make it essential that these families have this possibility”.
Meanwhile, he commented that the Institute has a five-year project for which 25 colonies were chosen to be provided with infrastructure to improve their quality of productivity and also their quality of life. To this will be added a project promoted by the vice president of INC, José Antonio Amy, which is intended to provide these families with a computer to take advantage of this technology and electrical connection.
“From now on and in the following year, all the families of the settlers are going to have a computer so that they can take advantage of, precisely, the conditions that technology gives us today and what it means to have electricity, what it means to have connectivity and, therefore, Of course, also what it means for the education of the country family”, indicated Cardozo.
