The Union of Police Officials of Montevideo (SIFPOM), issued a document where it makes clear its rejection of the incorporation of retired officials.
“We fight for a decent retirement where you don’t have to go back to work after retirement. We want police officers to retire earlier, with fewer years, given the complexity of the task and how it wears down the police both physically and mentally”, says Sifpom.
“We believe that there are many young people -such as the eventual ones- waiting for budgeting for these places,” continues the dispatch, which also attributes another intention to the ministerial resolution to put retired agents into service: “they want to demonstrate that it is not necessary to leave with less years, and in some way they are used to continue paying insufficient pensions, ”says the letter from the union.
Later, he stated that “Our project presented in parliament asks for a better retirement and a lower retirement age, therefore, it is opposed to this call.” On May 1, the rehiring of at least a thousand retired personnel up to and including 65 years of age was approved.
The people hired will carry out “observation” tasks. Like “prevention, dissuasion and repression and thus avoid the commission of crimes or misdemeanors.” They will also have “community relations” functions.
