Santiago.- (EFE).- The Central American Integration System (SICA) will celebrate this Friday in the city of Santiago (north of the Dominican Republic) its 56th Meeting of Heads of State and Government, in which the main issues will be addressed that concern the region.
These issues include democratic security, economic and social integration, climate change and the corresponding risk or migration management, as well as institutional strengthening.
Likewise, during this summit, the Dominican Republic, which has held the pro tempore presidency of SICA this semester, will pass the baton to Belize, which will hold office for the next six months.

In addition to the host, the Dominican Head of State, Luis Abinader, and the Secretary General of SICA, the Nicaraguan Werner Vargas, the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chávez, and the Vice Presidents of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa, and of Honduras, Renato Florentino Pineda.
The Prime Minister of Belize, Juan Antonio Briceño, present at the meeting, will be in charge of receiving from Abinader the pro tempore presidency of the organization.
Other senior regional officials who have confirmed their attendance are the president of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), the Panamanian Amado Cerrud Acevedo, and the head of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Honduran Dante Mossi.
The SICA summit, under the motto “Adapting regional integration to new challenges”, takes place after the System’s Foreign Ministers will meet on Thursday to define the agenda for this meeting at the highest level and agree to include Greece as an observer member of the organization.
SICA, founded in 1991, is made up of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Belize and the Dominican Republic as full members, while Mexico, the United States and other countries have the category of regional observers. EFE
