The National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has forecast that several regions of the country will experience showers accompanied by thunderstorms this Sunday, especially in the provinces of La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, Peravia and San Cristóbal, among other nearby provinces.
This rainfall activity will be more frequent in the afternoon and will extend to localities such as Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Elías Piña, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez and Santiago. The main cause of these rains is the interaction of a trough with local effects, including daytime and orographic warming.
In addition, a tropical wave is expected to remain south of the country, moving with greater cloudiness towards the Caribbean Sea.
For tomorrow, Monday, the presence of small concentrations of Saharan dust is expected to limit the formation of significant clouds and major rainfall events.
However, during the afternoon there will be isolated showers or downpours with possible thunderstorms, mainly in the north, northeast, east, the Central Mountain Range and some sectors of the border area. This will be due to a trough at various levels of the troposphere and the local effects of daytime and orographic warming.
In addition, it reported that Tropical Storm Debby is currently located approximately 315 kilometers south/southwest of Tampa, Florida. With maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and higher gusts, Debby is moving north/northwest at a speed of 20 km/h. ONAMET clarifies that, due to its position, distance and displacement, Debby does not represent a danger to the Dominican Republic.
He predicts hot temperatures due to the time of year and recommends that the population drink enough fluids, wear light-colored clothing and avoid direct exposure to the sun between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
