Showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind in the afternoon hours this Saturday

COE increases to 11 the number of provinces on alert for tropical wave and trough

Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported this Saturday that weather conditions will include showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind during the afternoon, in addition to hot temperatures.

Meteorology explained that this pattern is the result of the effects of a trough, and the rains will be concentrated in the southeastern provinces, the Central Mountain Range and the border area.

Regarding tropical depression No. 4, it was explained that it is located far from our area, approximately 135 km south/southeast of Varadero, Cuba, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and moving west/northwest at 26 km/h. This system is expected to acquire the category of tropical storm later today, near the southeastern part of the Gulf of Mexico.

“This system, due to its location and movement, does not pose a threat to our country.”

Due to the rains forecast for the next24 hours, Meteorological Alerts remain in effect for several provinces, in view of possible flooding of rivers, streams and ravines, as well as landslides and urban flooding.

The provinces on alert are: Monte Plata, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, El Seibo, Hato Mayor and Samana.

Tomorrow Sunday, Significant accumulated precipitation will be limited by an atmosphere with lower humidity content and slight concentrations of Saharan dust particles. However, in the evening, cloudiness is expected to increase with isolated showers and occasional thunderstorms towards localities in provinces such as: Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Elías Piña, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís and some sectors of Greater Santo Domingo, due to the effects of daytime warming and a trough at various levels of the troposphere.

Santo Domingo West: scattered clouds. Cloudy skies with increasing amounts of showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind in the afternoon.
