Santo Domingo.- Moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms will occur this afternoon in Santo Domingo and the National District due to the incidence of an active tropical wave located west of the Lesser Antilles, reported the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).

Moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusts are also expected in Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, Monsignor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodriguez, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris and San Cristobal.

In view of the announced rains, Indomet issued meteorological alerts for the provinces of Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, Santo Domingo, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, San Cristóbal and San Pedro de Macorís due to possible flooding of rivers, streams and ravines.

Tomorrow, rainy conditions will continue with downpours and gusts of wind from the early hours of the morning in Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, El Gran Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal, it was reported.

After noon, these frequent and intense rainfalls with thunderstorms and gusts of wind in towns of Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Cristobal, San Pedro de Macoris, San Juan de la Maguana, Elias Piña, Greater Santo Domingo and in other towns in nearby provinces.

The trough will affect the active tropical wave that will be located over the Dominican territory, due to the influence of the tropical wave that will be moving south of the country.
