To start 2025 in high spirits, TV Brasil, broadcaster of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC)presents an infectious show by the group New Bahians on the schedule for the first night of the year. The lively performance is the attraction on the public broadcaster’s small screen at 11pm this Wednesday (1st).
During the performance, the band – formed by Pepeu Gomes, Baby do Brasil and Paulinho Boca de Cantor – performs a repertoire of hits that have rocked crowds for 55 years.

The ensemble performs classics such as Mystery of the Planet, It’s over crying, Preta Pretinha, 70s, You are the beast, Take a roll and The Girl Dancessongs that made history and span generations.
Lasting around two hours, the show is part of the tour Chorare is over: New Baianos meet. The show was recorded by TVE Bahia, TV Brasil’s partner in the National Public Communication Network (RNCP). The special production rocked the audience at the Concha Acústica of Teatro Castro Alves, in Salvador, in early December, during the awards ceremony of the Educadora FM Music Festival.
You New Bahians emerged at the end of the 1960s with an initial formation that brought together Moraes Moreira, Baby do Brasil, Pepeu Gomes and Paulinho Boca de Cantor, as well as lyricist Luiz Galvão. The famous band influenced MPB and Brazilian rock in the 1970s.
With an eclectic profile, the group plays several national rhythms such as samba, bossa nova, frevo, baião, choro, afoxé and ijexá, in addition to rock’n’roll. The group released eight studio albums in the 1970s alone. The second work – It’s over crying -, was chosen by the magazine Rolling Stonein 2007, the best album in the history of Brazilian music.
