ten people died when a man opened fire at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, The Buffalo News reported, citing law enforcement sources.
At least five lifeless bodies were found in the car parking areaas well as several people inside the store.
A police source told the newspaper that the shooter had a camera and body armor with a military helmet.
“Ten people were killed by a man covered in armor and armed with a very powerful rifle, and three others were injured; two of them seriously,” the newspaper said, citing a police officer present at the scene and another source close to authorities.
Custodial shooting perpetrator
The Buffalo Police Department tweeted at 3:26 pm that officers were “at the scene of the mass shooting at Tops,” the grocery store, and that the shooter was in custody.
“Police said several people were hit by the gunshots,” the tweet added.
Police investigate whether the shooter broadcast the attack liveaccording to the newspaper, as has been stated on social networks.
“It’s like walking into a horror movie, but it’s all real. It’s like Armageddon,” a police source told the newspaper.
“I am actively monitoring the situation of the mass shooting at the grocery store. We stand with the people of Buffalo,” New York State Senator Chuck Schumer said on Twitter.
Authorities are investigating, according to AP sources, if there could have been a possible racial motivation behind the massacre, which took place in a predominantly black neighborhood 5 km from downtown Buffalo.
