Santiago.– A shooting attack perpetrated by unknown persons this Friday afternoon against the vehicle of the deputy director of the Rafey Hombres penitentiary center, in the Monterrico sector of the Cienfuegos municipal district, left a man seriously injured.
According to preliminary versions, two individuals on board a motorcycle fired several shots at the car, which had at least seven bullet holes.
In the middle of the attack, a public transport driver who was traveling through the area with a passenger was shot in the head, for which he was helped by emergency units and taken to a medical center, where he remains in critical condition.

Official was not in the vehicle
The authorities confirmed that the deputy director of the penitentiary center was not inside the car at the time of the attack, so she was unharmed.
Members of the National Police and the Public Ministry began the corresponding investigations to determine the motivations for the incident and identify those responsible.
As part of the investigative process, environmental surveillance cameras and other evidence collected at the scene are analyzed.
Concern in the community
The incident has caused alarm among residents of the Monterrico sector, who expressed their fear over the increase in violent events in the area.
Community members requested a greater police presence to reinforce security and prevent new attacks.
The authorities reiterated that they will offer information as the investigative process progresses.
