The goalkeeper Ramon Souza, Grêmio Anápolis of Brazil is recovering, out of danger, from a shot in the leg fired on Wednesday night by a police officer with a rubber bullet gun, after the end of a match of the lower categories of the Goiano Championship.
Grêmio Anápolis reported on Thursday that, after receiving medical attention, the goalkeeper “is not at risk of death, nor of losing his leg” injured by the projectile, and posted images of the injured player on its social networks.
The Government, outraged
The incident provoked outrage from the Brazilian government, which through the Ministry of Sport expressed its “great dismay” at the “regrettable events” that occurred during the match of the 12th round of the Access Division to the Goiano Championship (1-2).
“The disproportionate and violent action of the Military Police, which culminated in the shooting of a rubber bullet at the goalkeeper Ramon Souza“It is unacceptable and must be vehemently condemned,” the Ministry of Sport said in an official statement.
Brawl between players
The incident took place at the Jonas Duarte stadium in the city of Anápolis, when an officer opened fire on the goalkeeper just seconds after a brawl between players from both teams.
The police intervened to separate the footballers and, when it seemed that everything had returned to normal, one of the uniformed officers shot at the leg of Ramon Souza, according to images spread on social networks.
The goalkeeper received medical attention on the pitch and was then transferred to a mobile intensive care unit to continue with “first aid.”
The player’s club will go to court
In a statement, Grêmio Anápolis announced that it will go to court to ensure that “the person responsible is punished” and that “justice is done” in the face of this “criminal act.”
“It was a horrible, unbelievable and criminal act by someone who should have prioritized the safety and integrity of the people who were at the Jonas Duarte stadium,” the club said.
He added: “July 10 was marked by a violent, dirty and horrible act against one of our players, which will never be forgotten.”

He stressed that the shooting was done with a rubber bullet gun, “which is less lethal,” and reaffirmed his commitment to the law and his rejection of any type of misconduct by his officers.
