The former gunner’s initiative came on the occasion of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, in which he stated that “the Ukrainian people want peace”, just before the start of the Coppa Italia semifinals between Milan and Inter.
“Dear Italian friends, from San Siro I ask you to make your support for peace in Ukraine felt. The Ukrainian people want peace, because peace has no borders, because what unites us must be stronger than what divides us”, he argued.

Ukraine closed on the sixth day since the Russian invasion. For now, diplomats from both sides are expected to meet again at the border with Belarus for a new round of negotiations.
