Claudia Sheinbaum
President Claudia Sheinbaum will celebrate Christmas this Christmas in Acapulco, Guerrero, where she will spend her first vacation since assuming the presidency of the Republic. During these three days, from December 24 to 26, the president will not hold the morning press conference.
The “morning” will resume on December 29, when the federal president returns to her activities. “We are going to give vacations to the entire Presidential Source, to all the colleagues, to whom we thank, to all of them, this year when we were together at 07:30 in the morning sharp,” he commented in recent days.
This is the first vacation Sheinbaum takes as president. In 2024, just two months after taking office, his days of rest were limited to December holidays, such as December 24, 25, 31 and January 1.
Before her inauguration, in September 2024, Sheinbaum took a few days off to celebrate her ‘honeymoon’ with her husband, Jesús María Tarriba.
At the end of August 2024, Sheinbaum commented: “I don’t know yet, we are looking there with my husband, to replace the three-day honeymoon that we never had.”
Where did other presidents spend their holidays?
Each president of Mexico has the freedom to decide when and where to take his vacations, whether at Easter, during the summer or at Christmas and New Year. Some prefer to rest in personal properties, while others choose State rest houses, as was the case of some former presidents.
AMLO
Former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador used to travel to Palenque, Chiapas, where his “La Chingada” ranch is located, to enjoy his days of rest. On occasions, he also spent a few days in Tabasco, his homeland, or even in the National Palace, in the company of his family.
“I’m going to spend Christmas here in Mexico City. My children and my wife are going to be there, we’re going to spend Christmas here as a family. On the 25th we rest,” he commented in December 2022.
López Obrador avoided, unlike other presidents, using the presidential rest houses. Even during his government he announced the sale of the “Quinta Maya” in Cozumel, a property that was used by previous leaders.

Then, he asserted that the resources obtained from the sale would be used to improve the situation of the poorest municipalities in Quintana Roo.
“I am aware that the president of Mexico had staff and maintenance was paid for two rest houses. One in Cozumel and another in Acapulco… and I am not going to use them,” he said in December 2018.
