Salina Cruz, Oax., 24 hours after the derailment of the Interoceanic Train, President Claudia Sheinbaum made an intense work tour of the hospitals where the injured were admitted to express her solidarity and the support of the government.
In this context, he announced that 30 thousand pesos will be given to them to cover funeral expenses and support them during their stay in this port or the hospitals where their relatives are recovering.
In a brief interview upon arriving at the General Hospital of Zone Number 2 of the IMSS, he expressed that there were 13 deaths in the accident, who were traveling in “the car that unfortunately fell into the ravine.”
Once the morning at the National Palace concluded, the president moved to Tehuantepec to make a first visit to the Issste hospital and to express solidarity with the families of the internees and express to them that they will have the support of the federal government.
Later he went to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Salina Cruz and in the end he visited the General Zone of the IMSS, where most of the injured are, with varying degrees of severity.
He pointed out that the 30 thousand pesos are a first support to the relatives of the victims for immediate expenses of each family or to pay for funerals. He specified that in some cases the injured were transferred to hospitals in the state capital for care or specialized surgical intervention; He stressed that if necessary they could take them to Mexico City.
He pointed out that once the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) determines the causes of the incident, the amount of a second financial support for the victims will be established, suggesting that it would be for those who had a death.
The President spent just over an hour talking with the convalescent people and their families. Accompanied by the general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, she toured the rooms where the injured were located and listened to people’s concerns.
In the morning, outside the hospital, some dissatisfied voices were heard from relatives of the injured, who criticized the hospital authorities’ attempts, as they said, to expedite the decision to discharge some “without due medical evaluation.” However, as the hours passed, these disagreements subsided as they were treated at the IMSS.
Robledo even pointed out in a brief interview that patients who were originally taken to hospitals in Matías Romero or Juchitán were relocated to the General Hospital of Zone Number 2, because it has greater capacity for surgical interventions. He commented that a three-year-old girl had already been operated on and four more patients were waiting for surgery for fractures, but, he emphasized, there are no patients with a serious diagnosis.
In the interview, Sheinbaum reported that he had dedicated himself exclusively to expressing his support for the victims, which is why he did not go to the site where the derailment occurred. For this issue, he noted, FGR experts are working, who are dedicated to clarifying the causes of the accident.
He explained that personnel from the victim care commission assist the affected families, with the support of national servants. In the afternoon, the president addressed the community of Asunción Ixtaltepec to express her condolences to the relatives of two fatal victims.
Later he met with federal and state officials to evaluate the care provided to those affected; They agreed that the delivery of the bodies be carried out “as quickly as possible, in a dignified and respectful process.”
At night, in the community of El Espinal, in a coordinated operation, the federal and Oaxaca governments, with the participation of the FGR, began the delivery of the remains of the deceased.
On the other hand, in Salina Cruz the Transisthmian station remained closed. The service is suspended until further notice.
