President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated yesterday the Free Center for the women of Calakmul, in Campeche, and highlighted there the policies promoted by her government to guarantee substantive equality and end gender violence in the country.
Accompanied by the governor of the entity, Layda Sansores, stressed in that center, which is located in the population of Xpujil, that the goal is for women to reach their right to be free.
He explained that when he assumed the Presidency of the Republic, and said that he did not arrive alone, but all Mexican women, it was not only an expression, but the goal of working to recognize and make visible female rights, including thinking “what we want” and “the freedom to decide for us, same,” he said.
The president toured the opening ceremony of handicrafts in the town and received signs of affection. Already in the Free Center for Women, its legal counselor, Karina Guadalupe Cohuo, told her to be very proud to govern Mexico.
“It represents my grandmother’s dreams, of my mother, even to my daughter’s,” he told him about tears and had to interrupt his speech for emotion.
The president went to her and hugged her, between applause of the attendees and already in her turn, she insisted that it is not just the fact that a woman arrived in the presidency of the Republic, which in itself is important, “but also, we modify, let’s prevention to avoid violence, but we also recognize and we are always proud to be women.”
He then presented the projects focused on that objective, such as the Women’s Card, where their rights are established, among them, to study, choose the profession they decide, access to health, to have properties, among others.
He explained that millions of copies were already printed and they will translate into indigenous languages. It is also required, he stressed that men read it, since they have to act differently, with a relationship of respect, recognition and share each of the tasks that are normally assigned to women.
The president also referred to the recognition that her government has made to women who have had a fundamental role in the history of Mexico, and were never named. He explained that the recent reform of the national shield, flag and anthem law includes in the ephemeris, not only heroes, but also heroines such as Josefa Ortiz and Leona Vicario.
The Free Center for Women, which will support the inhabitants of the 84 communities of Calakmul, has psychologists, lawyers, social worker, and other professionals who attend cases of family violence, but also help in process to access social programs.
The intention of the federal government is that in each municipality in the country one of those centers is constituted.
In his turn, Sansores, highlighted the importance of the center in Calakmul, since, he stressed, “being a woman, being indigenous and being poor, is the worst thing that can happen to you in life.”
He highlighted the president’s vision to “build the roads that allow women to break the silence.”
