Puebla, Pue., President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo ruled out that the dispute between the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the prime minister of Canada, Mark Carney – due to their positions in Davos – could affect the T-MEC.

He reiterated that the trade agreement is convenient for the three nations, which is why his administration continues working to keep it in force.

During her morning conference – which took place yesterday in the capital of Puebla – the head of the Executive was asked about the divergent positions between Carney and Trump at the World Economic Forum, and whether this situation would put the treaty at risk, to which she responded: “we are going to work so that it is not broken. And we believe that it is convenient for the three countries to maintain the trade agreement.”

Regarding the confronting positions between the leaders of the two neighboring nations, the president said: “I would not call it a ‘clash of speeches’, but simply different points of view regarding what is happening at the international level.”

He indicated that he has tried to speak with the Canadian Prime Minister; However, their agendas have not coincided, so he will continue seeking to make contact soon, as with his American counterpart. This, “for all negotiations that have to do with the trade agreement.”

He announced that next week, the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, will travel to Washington “to continue working on trade issues.”

He declared that yesterday a team headed by the Undersecretary for North America of the Foreign Ministry, Roberto Velasco, was in the US capital to talk with high-level officials from the neighboring country, in order to follow up on the bilateral understanding on security matters.

On the other hand, to the question regarding various demonstrations that have taken place to expand the regularization of the so-called automobiles chocolatesthe head of the Executive indicated that the period for that procedure has ended. “If the vehicles entered in 2025, they have the opportunity for regularization. The decree is no longer in force because what it established was complied with, which was vehicles of a certain age, and greater use was being made than established. That is why we made the decision to close it.”

He noted that the units that did not complete the process have the possibility of doing so, but now the conditions are different. “It is just a matter of approaching the state government and together with the Ministry of Finance we can help solve this problem.”
