The United States will not have intelligence platforms in Mexico, said President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, after the State Department spoke of the connection of this type of instruments between both countries.
In his press conference, he also reported that at last week’s security meeting, the neighboring country asked to investigate the use of drones by crime on the common border.
In the first case, he stated, “it is not a permanent connection, it is an exchange of information; it is not that they are going to have platforms here in Mexico. At different times, in different governments”, including that of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, “teams from institutions of the United States government, which the government of Mexico does not have, were requested to be able to carry out some operation” through a formal agreement. But “it is not that they have platforms permanently with our authorization monitoring.”
Regarding the use of drones by cartels on the border, he responded: “Nothing to see… In one case it was an attack on elements of the Defense, which was public, but we have not even detected it on the border.”
Drones have been seized in different operations and “they suggested that it was important. So it was seen at the meeting, but not for any special issue.”
