Sheinbaum on relationship with the US: “The independence and sovereignty of the Homeland is not up for negotiation”

This Saturday, at a rally in Petatlán, Guerrero, he said that collaboration with Trump will be maintained, but that this will not be at the cost of the country being subordinated to the United States.

“Independence is something fundamental for our country, it has cost a lot. Therefore, we always say that when we dialogue with any country in the world, and in particular with the United States, we can collaborate, we can coordinate, we are neighbors. But, as I said, we coordinate, we collaborate, but we never subordinate ourselves,” he stressed.

Since the military intervention in Venezuela to capture its president Nicolás Maduro, Latin America has raised alarm bells over the possibility of the United States violating international law against other countries in the region. His interventionist escalation also targets Greenland. This Saturday, it also launched “large-scale attacks” in Syria.

In Mexico there is also fear due to Trump’s continuous threats. However, Sheinbaum maintains that external intervention will not be allowed in the country.

“We are two equal countries. And we negotiate, we talk, we work, but there is something that is not up for negotiation and that is the independence and sovereignty of the Homeland,” he reiterated before hundreds of attendees, to whom he gave Welfare Pension cards.

During her visit to Guerrero, the president was accompanied by the controversial former candidate for governor of Morena, Félix Salgado, father of the current state president Evelyn Salgado, who also attended the Sheinbaum events.

Salgado lost the candidacy for not verifying his pre-campaign expenses and due to complaints against him for rape. However, he has not been prosecuted and gave the candidacy to his daughter.

On his tour, Sheinbaum also supervised the reconstruction of the Agricultural Technological Baccalaureate Center (CBTA) No. 296 in Acapulco, damaged by Hurricane John in October 2024.

The federal government invests 19.7 million pesos in this work, which is 74% complete and is part of the educational strategy to expand the supply of places in upper secondary education.

Subsequently, Sheinbaum held an information meeting with small coffee producers from the municipality of Atoyac de Álvarez, who are part of the Food for Wellbeing program.

This initiative seeks to guarantee sufficient income with fair prices and without intermediaries to 2 million small producers of coffee, cocoa, corn, beans and honey, so that they do not abandon the countryside.
