This was Sheinbaum’s first speech, before a silent opposition, which adopted an institutional position, although he did express his doubts and criticisms but in his positions on the platform, without shouts, offenses or signs of rejection.
In the Congress session, before President Ifigenia Martínez, the full senators and deputies, former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and guests from 105 nations, Sheinbaum Pardo dedicated a message to his predecessor and the population
“We will guarantee all freedoms of assembly. Human rights will be respected and we will never use the force of the State to repress the people. “We will respect and guarantee the religious, political, social, and sexual diversity of our society.”
He also outlined the tasks that would mark his management, his ideology and commitments to build the “second floor of the Fourth Transformation”, consisting – he explained – of providing continuity.
He also defended the constitutional reforms proposed by López Obrador, highlighting the judicial one and by which the National Guard will be transferred to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).
“Just think about it for a moment, if the objective had been for the president to control the Supreme Court we would have carried out a Zedillo-style reform. No, that is authoritarianism, we are democrats,” he said in reference to the former PRI president, who in 1996 dissolved the Court to make way for the current Court election scheme.
