The president called on Mexicans to defend the country’s independence and justice against any possible foreign interference.
“The use of force to put an end to reason does not succeed, nor does he succeed who defends the old privileges in the face of transformation, nor does he who seeks foreign support when he has no internal support.
“But the people of Mexico must always be alert to any attempt at external interference promoted, yes, by the conservatives,” he said when leading the cancellation of a commemorative postage stamp for the 200 years of the Independence of the sea.
Sheinbaum sends this message in rejection of violence and foreign interference after two protests by the so-called Generation Z that took place on November 15 and 20, in which complaints were made to the Government of Mexico in the face of insecurity, especially after the murder of the former mayor of Uruapan Carlos Manzo.
The president also spoke out in previous days regarding the offer from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as well as the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to “help” with measures such as anti-drug operations, intelligence or weapons to stop the movement of drugs across the border with Mexico.
“I have told (President Trump) on all occasions that we can collaborate, that they can help us with the information they have, but that we operate in our territory, that we do not accept intervention from any foreign government,” Sheinbaum said last November 19 in his morning conference from the National Palace.
This Sunday the president called on Mexican men and women to “defend independence and justice.”
“The nations of the world look at Mexico with hope and admiration because here the country defends itself with love and when love for the people, love for the country and reason come together, hatred and the call for interference weaken,” he said.
