According to the White House, at the meeting, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, President Biden congratulated Sheinbaum on his victory on June 2 and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to building a prosperous North America.
“The two leaders stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation on migration, security and address the scourge of transnational criminal violence and economic issues, taking advantage of the strong bilateral partnership between the United States and Mexico,” the White House reported.
The relationship between Mexico and the United States has been marked by tension in recent weeks due to issues such as Judicial Reform, the violence in Sinaloa derived from the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada” and by the criticism of Ambassador Ken Salazar towards the security strategy implemented in the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
He also talks with Macron
Claudia Sheinbaumpresident of Mexico, met for the first time with Emmanuel Macronpresident of France, with whom he agreed to promote cooperation in health, water projects, infrastructure and gender equality.
The meeting took place in Brazil, where both heads of state are participating in the G-20 Leaders’ Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This Monday’s meeting is the second contact between Sheinbaum and Macron. On June 3, the president of France called her by phone to congratulate her on her victory at the polls.
For this November 18, the president has planned another seven bilateral meetings with the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; and from South Korea, Yoon Suk-Yeol; as well as with the Prime Ministers of Canada, Justin Trudeau; from the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer; from India, Narendra Modi; from Japan, Shigeru Ishiba; and from Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh.
